The 2nd annual New Zealand Bartender
Magazine Bar Awards is set to light up Auckland on Tuesday,
17 July at the Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel at the
picturesque Princes Wharf.
The New Zealand Bartender Magazine Bar Awards is the only awards ceremony dedicated to New Zealand’s bar and bartending industry and recognises the hard work of bar professionals over the last year. The gala dinner event will be held on the first night of Auckland BarShow.
There will be a total of 15 awards presented over the evening, with five new categories for 2007, covering a broader spectrum of excellence. The five new awards are Bar Manager of the Year, New Pub of the Year, Operator of the Year, Best Bar Food and Best Music Offering. These new categories join favourites such as Bar of the Year, Cocktail Bar of the Year and Best Drinks selection.
The attached PDF includes all the finalists in each category. These leading venues have been selected from thousands of trade votes submitted from all around New Zealand. The winners will be determined by a combination of these trade votes as well as a panel of industry professionals who will cast their final votes in July.
In addition, New Zealand Bartender magazine will hold the Bartender of the Year Competition with the support of premium gin brand Bombay Sapphire. More than 70 of New Zealand’s finest bartenders have been invited to compete at Auckland BarShow to take out the prestigious honour of being Bartender Magazine’s Bartender of the Year, a trip to Sydney BarShow in September and a cash prize of $1000. Last year’s winner, Simon McGoram of Mea Culpa in Auckland said of his victory: “This has not only been pinnacle of my career to date but has opened many doors before me in what maybe a long love affair with our spirited trade.”
David Spanton, Managing Director of Spanton Media Group and Editor-in-chief of New Zealand Bartender magazine says: “This awards night is a great opportunity for New Zealand’s hospitality trade leaders to network with their industry peers and be congratulated for their achievements over the last year.”
The New Zealand bar awards is being held in conjunction with Auckland BarShow 07, providing the perfect networking function for Day One of the event which will be held at Auckland’s Alinghi Base on 17 & 18 July, 2007.
