Fairfax Media appoints Chris Coomer as Commercial Manager of IFR
Fairfax Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Coomer as the Commercial Manager of the Independent Financial Review (IFR) newspaper, effective July 9.
Coomer is moving into the role after two and a half years as an account manager at Fairfax Media’s Ad Network, which services the media group’s agency clients throughout New Zealand.
Previously he held the position of Group Advertising Manager at Fairfax Sundays for two years and brings a wealth of advertising industry experience to the weekly financial newspaper.
“I’m excited to be taking this new role with a newspaper that is going from strength to strength,” Coomer said.
The IFR has increased its readership to 34,000 a week since its relaunch in May last year from under 30,000 when it was The Independent. The newspaper has also increased its size to 32 pages on average from 24 pages, and has launched a range of new sections including Investing, Lifestyle and Leisure and Technology.
Its special features on KiwiSaver and Green Business over the last year have set precedents that other business publications have followed.
"Fairfax is pleased to announce Chris' appointment, which adds further commercial strength to the IFR," said Fairfax Media Chief Operating Officer and Editor in Chief Peter O'Hara.
"The IFR has established itself as an outstanding source of financial, business and political news and information and Chris will now lead the next phase of Fairfax's development of the business."
The IFR’s editorial operations, led by its editor Nick Stride, will report to Fairfax’s Group Editor, John Crowley.
