Local Programme Providers Add New Multi-Cultural Line-Up To Triangle Television Wellington

Eleven new programmes all provided by local communities - are being added to Triangle Television Wellington's already eclectic line-up of programmes that reflect the diverse interests of the Wellington region. Nine of the new shows are produced locally, and two are produced overseas and provided to Triangle Television by local communities.

The new schedule comprises more than 12 hours of new programmes and commences on June 16.

"One of the most rewarding aspects of Triangle Television Wellington's role as a regional broadcaster is providing the opportunity for so many diverse cultural groups to contribute programmes," says Triangle Television Chief Executive Officer Jim Blackman.

"Our many local programme providers tell us that, by screening their programmes, we are contributing to a better New Zealand the programmes not only entertain and inform people from the ethnic group that the show is about, they also go a long way towards strengthening cross-cultural understanding."

Triangle Television provides viewers with a diverse range of programming including international news and special interest programmes, many of which reflect the diverse interests of people living and working in the Wellington region. Many of the programmes are made by local people or community groups, many of whom are first-time producers with limited budgets who are passionate about their messages and entertainment going to air.

Fridays at 9.30pm is time for Our People, a profile show featuring celebrities, non-celebrities, different cultures and different ways of life Indian and non-Indian.

Jim Blackman says: "These sorts of programmes are seldom, if ever, broadcast on mainstream television. They are programmes that in many cases enrich people's lives and remind them that they are part of a global community in other cases, they remind people of their homeland and keep them in touch with their culture's news, views and entertainment. All of them are meaningful and enjoyable for a broad range of people living and working in the Greater Wellington region," says Jim Blackman.
