Agreement with TrustPower to provide ISP services

Maxnet Press Release
Date: 5th June 2007

Maxnet announces agreement with TrustPower to provide ISP services to its power customers

Maxnet announced today that it has signed a deal with TrustPower to provide wholesale internet services to the company’s power customers nationwide. This is in addition to the services that Maxnet provides to CallSouth which was recently acquired by TrustPower.

The deal moves TrustPower one step closer to becoming a full service Telco provider. One of New Zealand’s leading electricity retailers, TrustPower will shortly launch Kinect, a full service Telco which will provide tolls, line and internet services. TrustPower Kinect customers will benefit from bundling discounts and a single bill for their power, phone and internet services.
Chris O’Hara, TrustPower General Manager Retail, says there were two main reasons for selecting Maxnet as preferred supplier. “Maxnet was chosen from a short-list of three potential New Zealand providers. After tendering the business, we selected Maxnet based on the quality of their infrastructure and excellent track record in wholesale services.“

Maxnet is a full service ISP based in Albany, Auckland and currently provides 35,000 paid subscription services to a mixture of business, wholesale and residential customers. In recent years the company has focused on the quality end of the business and wholesale markets differentiating itself by the reliability of its underlying infrastructure. It’s a strategy designed to attract large wholesale customers who value the additional redundancy and availability of the offered service. Maxnet recently invested over half a million dollars upgrading their power and cooling systems in their High Availability Internet Data Centre as part of an ongoing commitment to maintain network and systems uptime.

Maxnet MD, Brett Herkt views the new TrustPower Kinect relationship as a natural extension to Maxnet’s existing relationship with CallSouth. “Maxnet has been providing wholesale services to CallSouth for some time now and continue to do so under their new TrustPower ownership. We have been working through the details with TrustPower for a number of months and are obviously delighted to be partnering with them.”

The roll-out of the service will be done in regional stages starting within the next few months.
