National Readership Results Now Released Four Times A Year
May 31, 2007, Auckland
Nielsen Media Research, a division of The Nielsen Company, will release for the first time Readership for the period
May06-April07 on the 11th of June. This release signals the move from the traditional twice-yearly release to four
releases a year. This initiative is in response to marketplace feedback for more regular Readership reporting.
Stuart Jamieson, Executive Director, Nielsen Media Research said “The move to four releases of the National Readership
Survey is the first of a number of initiatives that we are working on with the Print Industry. We are also currently
running a number of Pilot studies that will provide the industry with additional insights into Readership.”
Julian Andrews, chairman of the Magazine Publishers’ Association’s advertising subcommittee said “This move highlights
the MPA’s belief that the advertising market deserves better quality readership information, and more often. We look
forward to working closely with Nielsen Media Research to extend the current survey into areas that focus on the unique
way consumers engage with magazines.”
"We welcome the decision to release more frequent data to the marketplace as this will help planners to evaluate
readership trends on a more regular basis than previous years. It is important in the current media environment to
supply as much information as possible and these additional releases will continue to provide insights into newspaper
readership" said Robert Munro General Manager of the Newspaper Advertising Bureau.
