Hospitality Assn Cheered by New Drivers' Licence Format
Hospitality Association cheered by new drivers' licence format The proposed new-look driver's licences have received a big tick from the Hospitality Association of New Zealand. Many young drinkers use a drivers' licence to verify that they are over 18 and entitled to purchase alcohol. The small photo size and the small font has lead many young people to try and use their siblings drivers licence, or "altered" date of birth.
Changes to licences will result in bigger and clearer photographs of the owner, and the details concerning their age. Other matters pertaining to the licence will also be clearer. "Some licenced premises are pretty darkly lit, as are some entrances where customer ID is inspected, and it hasn't been an easy task for many operators," says Bruce Robertson, Chief Executive of the Hospitality Association. "The new licence will make life a lot easier for bar operators trying to prevent those under the age of 18 purchasing alcohol." he said.
