Standards Organisations Welcome NCEA Changes
The organisations which set skill standards for industry are welcoming the changes to the NCEA announced by the Minister of Education today.
“The changes announced by the Minister should enhance the value and credibility of the learning gained by young people in secondary schools.
“We particularly welcome the strengthening of moderation of assessment. Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) are responsible to their industries to ensure consistency of assessment against industry skill standards; strengthened moderation of assessment in schools is an important step”, said Mr Baker.
“We also look forward to the proposed review of standards within the NCEA. ITOs have been setting skill standards for their industries since 1992; we look forward to bringing this expertise to bear in the planned review of standards for the NCEA”, said Jeremy Baker, Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.
“Ensuring that high quality, industry-relevant standards are incorporated into school qualifications is a key objective of ITOs. These standards provide young people with the opportunity to begin industry-relevant studies while still at school, so that they can make good choices about their future careers” said Mr Baker.
