Strong focus on the future at TRENZ 2007
18 May 2007
The focus will be on building a strong future for New Zealand’s multi-billion dollar tourism industry at TRENZ 2007 in Rotorua next week.
Business done at TRENZ (Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand) 2007 will influence the plans of New Zealand’s international visitors for up to three years. During TRENZ, about 350 international Buyers of travel and tourism from 28 countries will meet a similar number of New Zealand tourism operators over four days (21-24 May) at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.
Accommodation, transport, activities and experiences on offer at TRENZ will be included in holiday brochures and itineraries sold overseas for up to three years ahead.
TRENZ 2007 will reflect the principles and vision set out in the newly launched Draft New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 (NZTS 2015). The NZTS 2015, when completed, aims to guide the development of the New Zealand tourism industry for the next eight years.
“TRENZ has a key role in contributing to the Draft NZTS 2015 goal of ensuring New Zealand’s tourism sector is prosperous and attracts ongoing investment,” Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) Chief Executive Fiona Luhrs says.
“TRENZ is a highly efficient and effective way of allowing New Zealand operators to meet a large number of Buyers in one place without the expense of travelling offshore. The event allows us to showcase the best of New Zealand tourism and demonstrate to Buyers why this country is one of the world’s top visitor destinations.”
The tourism industry’s responsibility for taking a leading role in protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s environment is another guiding principle of the Draft NZTS 2015, which TRENZ 2007 will aim to
reinforce.
Due to the high level of global awareness of climate change issues, environmental sustainability is expected to be top-of-mind for many international guests at TRENZ 2007, Ms Luhrs says.
“A healthy planet is a must for travel and tourism – pristine national parks, clean beaches, safe drinking water, clean air and thriving cities are all requisites for today’s travellers. If Buyers indicate they need to have plenty of product options for consumers looking for exciting and rewarding travel experiences that don’t contribute to the damaging impact of carbon emissions on the environment, then the industry will no doubt respond with more environmentally friendly solutions.”
Tourism operators around the country support conservation efforts in a variety of ways and TRENZ 2007 Exhibitors are being encouraged to highlight their environmental efforts to Buyers. TRENZ organisers have worked with members of the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter to source recyclable and environmentally friendly materials, are using as many local suppliers as possible, and are providing recycling facilities.
TRENZ is managed by TIA in partnership with Tourism New Zealand and supported by Air New Zealand, Qantas and Destination Rotorua Tourism Marketing. For more information, visit www.trenz.co.nz
