Deadline For Design A Stamp Competition Looms

Creative kids wanting to get their images sent across the country and around the world on stamps need to get creating says New Zealand Post.

Entries for the New Zealand Post Design a Stamp competition close on Friday May 25. Five lucky winners will have their work produced for the 2007 Christmas stamp issue.

New Zealand Post stamps general manager Ivor Masters says this competition offers a rare opportunity for budding young artists to get their work seen across the world.

"While the prizes are pretty neat, the fact that a young person's art could be sent all over the world should, we hope, be inspiring.

"This year's theme is Christmas symbols. Children could go for a more traditional nativity scene or choose to draw something more contemporary or interpretive.

"The important thing for children to remember is that as stamps are small they need to keep their designs simple and use bright, strong colours."

"The competition was so popular last year, New Zealand Post has decided to run the competition again. We are expecting it to be even bigger and better."

The competition is open to all Years 1 to 8 students. All five winners will have their work produced as a stamp in the Christmas 2007 stamp issue

Each winner will receive a $1,000 Kiwibank account and $3,000 for their school. Judges will also choose an overall winner.

Entries close on Monday June 25. Entry forms and rules can be found at www.nzpost.co.nz/designastamp . The stamps will be available for sale from October 3. Entries should be sent to;
