New Launch At Auckland Airport

New Launch At Auckland Airport

Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) has launched FlightTXT™, a new Short Message Service (SMS) that will deliver flight status information as a text message to mobile devices, from the AIAL Flight Information Display System (FIDS).

Auckland Airport head of IT and telecommunications, Tony Wickstead, says, “The FlightTXT™ service provides up to date flight arrival and departure information for all airlines from one convenient source.”
Each text costs 40 cents (GST inclusive) which is billed to the user’s mobile phone account.

AIAL is working with Datasquirt to deliver the new service. Datasquirt is a New Zealand technology company that provides non-voice communications solutions, specialising in text messaging.

The Auckland Airport SMS service recently underwent a successful trial during the airport’s busy summer season. “The development of FlightTXT™ reflects the company’s continuing focus on using technology to enhance airport services for travellers,” says Mr Wickstead.

How it works:
To receive flight arrival or departure information, text the flight number you would like information for to 2040 e.g. SQ285 to 2040, ensuring there is no space in the flight number. Flight information received would read (for example) “SQ6838 from SYDNEY 10 May sched 10 May 16:30 est 16:25.”
More details and terms and conditions about FlightTXT™ can be found under Flight Information at www.auckland-airport.co.nz.
