ICONZ Opens Online Trade Route To Asia

ICONZ Opens Online Trade Route To Asia

For Immediate Release 07th May 2007

New Zealand businesses seeking an online presence in Asia now have access to a single, local point of contact as ICONZ, owner of New Zealand hosting companies 2day.com, Freeparking and Webfarm, has acquired a controlling stake in pan-Asian hosting company WebVisions.

WebVisions, based in Singapore, provides premier web hosting facilities through its data centres in 11 countries across Asia and Australia including two fully-fledged data centres in China. The combined companies will provide a ‘one stop shop’ for the growing numbers of New Zealand firms who wish to engage with the rapidly expanding economies in the region via the internet. ICONZ chief operating officer Sean Weekes said the acquisition provided New Zealand firms with local access to a single, streamlined entity with a deep understanding of online market needs across Asia.

“Whether it’s providing a mail service in the factory in Malaysia, or intranet access for sales staff in Shanghai, your New Zealand office can co-ordinate and standardise across the region.” WebVisions chief executive officer Roger Lim said that creating an online presence in Asia involves more than simply producing a Chinese language version of a web site.

“Culture, buying practices, and access to high-speed connections can all be an impediment to the message getting through. In some countries, online content is controlled by the state. That can present a challenge as well.”

Through WebVisions, New Zealand customers will be able to access shared hosting, dedicated hosting and co-location services using WebVision’s infrastructure and 150 highly trained technical staff which are already in place throughout Asia. In addition to the technical benefits to be gained from localising these services in Asia, many businesses will also achieve savings on international data costs.
