Fairfax Media Wins ‘Media Brand of the Year’ for Second Time

Fairfax Media won the ‘Media Brand of the Year’ category at the 2007 CAANZ Media Awards last night for the second consecutive year.

Joan Withers, Chief Executive Officer of Fairfax Media says, “the award reflects changes that Fairfax Media has made to its brand, and the subsequent influence this has had on our business practices, and their endorsement by our advertising partners”.

“To be judged best of the best by our peers for the second year running is an outstanding achievement,” said Ms Withers.

“The award endorses our commitment to investing in the best people, to develop the best ideas, and this is entrenching us as New Zealand’s best media company.

“The gold award recognises our strong commitment to our advertising customers, under Group Sales and Marketing Manager Sandra King’s leadership. Fairfax Media has created first-mover advantage in integrated media sales in New Zealand, and agencies and advertisers have gained real benefit from our approach. We will continue, as we have, to deliver a consistently high standard to our clients across the platforms of planning, creativity and service.”

Ms Withers says Fairfax Media’s recent strategic developments and title purchases, such as the Rodney Times and The Independent in 2006, broadened its communications offering. The purchase of Trade Me, and the strengthening of Stuff.co.nz and the sites its newspapers and magazines, had transformed Fairfax from a traditional media company into a digital multimedia company.

“This gold award win follows other notable successes over the past year for Fairfax Media. Cuisine magazine won the best magazine in the world, and Fairfax Media won more awards than any other single publishing company at INMA international awards, as well as 43 award wins at last year’s Qantas Print Media Awards,” says Ms Withers.

CAANZ judges commented that the Fairfax Media Network had experienced a year of strong growth through the implementation of a number of successful initiatives and acquisitions. With a vision to connect communities, challenge ideas and enrich lives, Fairfax Media has shown it is innovative, dynamic and visionary in what it does making them a worthy recipient of this award.
