Public Trust Revamps IT Infrastructure With Novell Enterprise Solutions
Auckland, 18 April 2007 –Public Trust, New Zealand’s largest and oldest trustee organisation has chosen Novell to revamp
the organisation’s outdated legacy computer systems in order to support future technologies.
Novell Open Enterprise Server, Novell ZENworks Suite, Novell Identity Manager and Novell eDirectory will provide Public
Trust with an open, scalable Linux platform that will centrally manage the organisation’s heterogeneous environment,
diminish its business risk and reduce costs. Remote and online access is now available to employees and customers.
“Across our offices, we were unable to manage and maintain our many technologies that were reaching their end-of-life.
Having decided on a future with Linux, we reviewed alternative platforms, and Novell’s products clearly stood out,” said
Craig Green, Head of Information Services, Public Trust. “Overall, compared to competing products, Novell’s product was
one step above.”
Novell Open Enterprise Server includes SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, an award-winning open-source server for delivering
business-level applications. While it serves the core file-and-print functionality for the organisation’s 500 machines
nationwide, the Novell Open Enterprise Server also gave Public Trust an open platform that supports other vendor
applications such as Microsoft Windows XP on the desktop. Novell ZENWorks Desktop Management helped automate application
deployment and better manage and maintain the IT resources spread throughout the country. Novell Identity Manager
simplifies user provisioning and password management by synchronising user identity information across the
organisation’s systems, with a single sign-on. Public Trust is planning to expand the use of single sign-on over the
next 18 months.
Matthew Christie, Area General Manager, Novell Australia, said, “The transformation for Public Trust is part of the
organisation’s decision to commit to a future with Linux and ensure lasting business continuity from its new IT
infrastructure. We are confident that Novell’s solutions will address Public Trust’s need for a common operating system
that improves development, support and maintenance demands on the IT team, as well as ensuring better planning for
disaster recovery.”
“Novell has helped us lay the groundwork for the future. With Novell’s solutions, our in-house knowledge and skills are
no longer spread thinly, and we have a better view of our infrastructure. It is easier and more cost effective to
manage,” concluded Green.
