Australian’s breakfast on New Zealand
Top-rating Australian breakfast television programme The Today Show is currently broadcasting live in New Zealand as part of Tourism New Zealand’s campaign to attract more visitors from across the Tasman.
Broadcasting live from Dunedin, Christchurch, Queenstown and Wanaka, Today Show viewers will breakfast over stories featuring Warbirds over Wanaka, a fashion show, iconic Arrowtown autumn scenes and a haggis ceremony.
A cheeky new Tourism New Zealand television commercial, just launched, tells Australians that New Zealand has turned itself into their national colours of Green and Gold to welcome them – playing on New Zealand’s Autumn colours
New Zealand audiences invited to be part of the Today Show are wearing Green and Gold to support the campaign.
George Hickton, Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive said that the Today Show’s visit is the latest in a series of initiatives in Tourism New Zealand’s ‘What's On’ campaign to change how Australians think about travelling to New Zealand.
“We want Australians to think of New Zealand regionally – the way Kiwis think of Australia, taking more frequent trips and getting to know regions rather than trying to see the whole country in one big hit,” said Mr Hickton.
The tourism marketing campaign launched in August 2006 and is credited with an increase in Australians visiting New Zealand - passing the 900,000 per annum for the first time last year.
Staff at New Zealand information centres around the country are currently sporting green and gold t-shirts claiming ‘Green and Gold is the new black.”
Mr Hickton says the ‘What’s On’ campaign has been strengthened with the investment of New Zealand Regional Tourism Organisations working with Tourism New Zealand.
The latest advertisements mark the first time Christchurch and Canterbury, Dunedin and Queenstown have advertised Australian television.
