Accor employee Colin McClean was awarded "Top Masters Student" this month, graduating with first class honours for his Master of International Hospitality Management degree from AUT.
Colin has spent many years in various roles within the industry, joining the Accor group for the first time briefly in 1999 and again in 2004. He now works as business development manager in the Corporate Sales team for Accor in New Zealand.
The new graduate says his success is due to a mix of studying hard and gaining skills and knowledge on the job.
"Industry experience is invaluable and really helped me to achieve my goals during my study. Now, I can combine my qualification and skills to continue to grow and develop as an employee in the industry. "
Another former AUT Hospitality Management student, John Parker, recently completed an analysis of staff turnover at hotel chain Accor, which so impressed hotel management that John has now been taken on as a graduate management trainee at Novotel Ellerslie & Hotel Ibis Ellerslie.
John produced the paper as a requirement for his Co-Operative Education paper last year while completing his Bachelor of International Hospitality Management. He was also invited to present his findings to the Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education in Sydney in February.
