19 March, 2007

New Zealand Olympic Committee appoints communications manager

New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) has appointed Ashley Abbott as its communications manager.

Ms Abbott has more than 13 years’ experience working in a variety of marketing and communications roles in New Zealand and overseas.

Recent roles have included working as media liaison for the 2003 America’s Cup, and directing communications and public relations for Team News Corp’s entry in the Volvo Ocean Race.

Ms Abbot has also worked in marketing, communications and advertising roles for organisations such as Air New Zealand, Walker’s Advertising and the National Geographic Channel.

Her most recent role was working with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise to develop and implement marketing programmes, including brand strategy.

NZOC secretary general, Barry Maister, said Ms Abbott’s strong background in public relations, media liaison, sponsorship, event marketing, and brand management, would be a great asset to the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

“Ashley has an excellent range of skills across both the sporting and corporate worlds. We are delighted that she is joining the New Zealand Olympic Committee.”

Ms Abbott will be based in the New Zealand Olympic Committee’s Auckland office and will work in the marketing and communications team alongside marketing and communications director, Paul Ryan, and marketing/brand manager, Kirsten Stent.
