Last Chance to Vote for Country’s Best
Buns
There are just two weeks left for people to vote for the nation’s best hot cross buns, with public voting in the Champion Flour Easter Bun Bake-Off set to close on 16 March.
Goodman Fielder Commercial Business Manager, Paul Howley, said there are a number of bakeries currently in close contention, and the final weeks of voting could make all the difference.
“Each bakery entered in the competition is displaying instore a four or five digit code. All people need to do is text the code to 4554, in order to register a vote for their preferred bakery,” Paul said.
“Customers can only vote once and, therefore, need to make sure that their vote counts. Each valid vote also enters the person who sent the text into a draw to win a $500 travel voucher.”
Paul said public text voting will determine five regional finalists selected from each of the four regions across New Zealand.
Once the 20 regional finalists have been determined, a judging panel will look at a range of criteria to select the regional and grand national winners.
“The criteria includes straight and over crosses, application of the bun glaze, crust colour, symmetry and batching of product, crumb softness, crumb texture, even dispersal of fruit, and a good aromatic flavour.
“Each bakery must also use three Champion products, one of which must be flour.”
Voting in the Champion Flour Easter Bun Bake-Off officially closes on 16 March 2007. The regional finalists and Grand National winner will be announced by 26 March 2007.
