People must stay out of rail yards

1 March 2007

Accident highlights why people must stay out of rail yards

Toll Rail warns people to stay out of their yards to avoid a repeat of last night's accident at Te Rapa where a young man was electrocuted after climbing onto a container.

Toll Rail Group General Manager Joe Garbellini says," that there is always a concern about the number of people who trespass onto rail yards even during the day and people should be aware that like any working site there are many dangers."

He says, "Te Rapa has always had an issue with people wandering through the area both during the day and night and last nights accident is sadly a real reminder of why the public should not venture onto such properties".

Mr Garbellini says," his thoughts are with the family of the young man involved and so other families do not have to go through the same trauma he asks that people take heed of his plea for the public not to at any point go illegally onto rail sites."
