Support Program for Wellington Exporters Announced

The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be able to launch a new program to assist new exporters as part of Export year 2007. Trade Minister Phil Goff announced the program at the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce Momentum breakfast this morning.

NZTE will provide funding to the Regional Chamber of Commerce for a one year pilot programme which will:

- Identify and case manage up to 60 companies that can move into exporting or can intensify their exporting activity
- Organise a programme of workshops and seminars that provide practical insights and tips for exporters as they move offshore

The project is being co-ordinated by the Regional Chamber of Commerce, led by the Porirua Chamber. It has been made possible by a joint effort by Business Porirua, Trade Navigators, WHK Gosling and Chapman, Export New Zealand and the Regional Chamber. These bodies are pooling their expertise and contacts. The Chambers are also looking for other private sector sponsors and have already had the offer of support from a number of the large professional service providers in Wellington.

“Increasing our export performance is crucial to New Zealand and to the regional economy. Doubling the size of exporting is critical to achieving the Regional Strategy and the Chamber is pleased to be picking up the ball and running with it” said Charles Finny, CEO of the Wellington Chamber.

“We are keen to hear from any company that is seriously considering exporting. This programme will bring together a range of expertise and experience that has never been achieved before in Wellington. Tied into the programme will be an extensive number of opportunities to network with other exporters and learn the tricks of the trade”, Mr Finny concluded.

A Project Manager will be appointed in the near future. Before then please contact Mark Copsey.
