Group Online Editor Appointed to Fairfax Digital

MEDIA RELEASE

Group Online Editor Appointed to Fairfax Digital

Fairfax Media today announced it has made a key executive appointment as it grows its digital news and information franchise.

Sinead Boucher has been appointed to the newly established position of Group Online Editor, responsible for Fairfax Media’s digital editorial operations in New Zealand.

Fairfax Media’s Group Head of Digital Nic Cola says the appointment is an important one in the growth strategy of Fairfax Digital.

“Sinead will have editorial oversight of Stuff.co.nz, be responsible for increasing the interactivity of our news sites with blogs and user generated content and, with the editors, will be responsible for building an integrated, cross platform approach to news. It’s a big job but we know Sinead is the ideal person to take the digital platform to where it needs to go, and beyond,” says Nic Cola.

Fairfax Media’s newsrooms have already been transformed to make stories available across both print and online platforms, keeping readers up to date with the latest news as it unfolds. During the All Blacks northern hemisphere tour last year Fairfax reporters filed newspaper stories plus updates around the clock for Stuff.co.nz with audio analysis and exclusive video match highlights extending the coverage.

Peter O’Hara, Fairfax Media’s Chief Operating Officer, said Sinead’s appointment will allow Fairfax to strengthen its cross platform reporting and “take it to the next level”.

Sinead is the former assistant editor at Fairfax Media’s Christchurch daily newspaper The Press where she was instrumental in the success of www.press.co.nz over the last three years. She also has extensive experience in online operations overseas having worked for The Financial Times on their website, FT.com, and then at Reuters on their online newsdesk before becoming a senior correspondent in their London Bureau.

Sinead will be based in Wellington and begins her new position on March 12, 2007.
