Jaguar: XJR extends classic range

media bulletin – Jaguar

XJR extends classic range

22 February 2007

The re-introduction of Jaguar's XJR is the first phase in the broadening of the classic Jaguar XJ model range in New Zealand.

The XJR is the high performance model of the XJ range and is powered by a 298 kWs 4.2 litre supercharged V8 engine mated to a six speed automatic transmission, which can be used manually.

The light weight four door aluminium bodied salon is aimed at a niche in the market which not all the other luxury car brands have models in.

"With a unique product like this aluminium bodied XJR we don't want to go head to head with our rivals," said Wallis Dumper the Managing Director of Motorcorp Distributors Ltd, the New Zealand importer of Jaguar.

"The Jaguar XJR provides an alternative drive experience for discerning kiwi motorists with its high performance ability, while retaining all the luxury features that Jaguar is known for. Plus it comes with that special ingredient of delivering tremendous car park satisfaction when arriving at the office."

With its ability to reach the legal speed limit in 5.3 seconds the XJR has true sports car performance combined with all the qualities of a premium luxury car.

The XJR has a more sporting appearance sitting on 20 inch alloy wheels and there is a unique metallic mesh grille. A sunroof is standard in the $179,990 price tag.

Xenon headlights are standard, together with front fog lights and there are front and rear parking aids.

It comes with Jaguar's uprated CATS (computer active technology suspension) sports air suspension monitors and changes suspension settings up to 3000 times a second to provide a firm but smooth ride, while retaining full suspension travel for that supple, luxurious ride that is synonymous with Jaguar.

A higher capacity ABS braking system with emergency brake assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also standard.

Speed sensitive variable ratio power steering provides the ideal steering weight irrespective of speed. It's light and easy to use in parking yet taut and precise on the open road.

The power train is complemented by traction control and dynamic stability control systems.

The cabin is highlighted by leather covered sports seats and an aluminium facia and centre console, similar in style to that featured in the XK coupe which was launched last year.

Other features include a reach and rake adjustable steering column and electrically adjustable pedals so the driver can create the perfect driving position together with the electrically adjustable seat.

The steering wheel and gear selection lever are leather covered. There is climate control air conditioning plus the typical array of electrically operated features. The door mirrors are also heated and there is a rain sensing wiper system.

A six disc CD premium sound system with steering wheel controls and a trip computer provide the entertainment and information. There are also steering wheel controls for the blue tooth communications system and cruise control.

Passive safety features include an adaptive restraint technology system to determine the precise energy levels of the eight airbags in the event of their deployment. There are energy absorbent front seat back restraints.

The security system is an integrated remote central locking with, vehicle immobiliser and intrusion sensing alarm system.
The XJR complements the standard XJ 4.2 V8 Sovereign, which comes with the standard 224 kWs V8 engine and is priced at $169,990.

In the second quarter this year Jaguar will introduce a diesel engined version of the XJ in New Zealand to further differentiate it from the other main stream luxury car brands.
