Toll Rail pleased with Midland Line trials
Toll Rail is pleased with the trials to date relating to expanding the current 30-wagon coal-carrying train capacity on the South Islands Midland Line.
Toll Rail Group General Manager Joe Garbellini says, a 45-wagon coal train weighing 3600 tonnes is the longest train they have trialed to date on the Line and they still have different options to consider before making any final decision on what can be put in place.
He says the trials to date, which have seen considerable co-operation between Toll Rail, its employees, the Rail and Maritime Transport Union and Ontrack, have been very successful and were possible due to the upgrades to Toll Rail’s rolling stock and improvements made by Ontrack to the line.
Once the trials have been completed, Mr Garbellini says Toll Rail will then discuss with Solid Energy when the growth in capacity would be required and manage the lead-time needed to be allowed to build the extra wagons.
