BNZ Monthly Confidence Survey Results

BNZ Monthly Confidence Survey Results

For the first time since our survey of Weekly Overview readers started in early 2005 the net percent of respondents feeling the economy will get better over the coming year is positive. Admittedly it is only just positive at 0.9% from -0.9% in the last survey in December. But it is in line with other surveys suggesting businesses are not greatly concerned about the outlook for the economy. In particular in spite of the high currency and warnings from the Reserve Bank about tightening monetary policy attitudes are positive. This bodes well for the labour market with positive implications from that for wage rises, retail spending and the housing market.
