FMCG Veteran To Head Fonterra Australasia
Fonterra has appointed Australian FMCG veteran, John Doumani, to the newly created role of Managing Director Fonterra Australasia. He will assume the new role in Melbourne on March 1 and report to Fonterra Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Ferrier.
Ferrier said the appointment, which follows the integration of Fonterra's businesses in Australia into one operational unit, reflects Fonterra's commitment to investing in the growth of its Australasian businesses.
"John Doumani is a strong addition to Fonterra and I know his experience and enthusiasm for brands and marketing will be a significant asset to us. He has a reputation for delivering a strong brand vision and leadership in a multinational environment," said Ferrier.
Doumani said that he was excited by the opportunities presented by the company and the category.
"Fonterra's global dairy expertise combined with the increasing consumer focus on health and well-being is a natural recipe for success. Increasingly dairy is being seen as the answer to consumer demand for food that is both nutritious and convenient. There couldn't be a better time to be in dairy - I am looking forward to the opportunities," said Doumani.
Doumani's role will include all of Fonterra's Australian businesses, including the former Peters & Brownes in Perth, the former Murrumbidgee Dairy Products in Wagga Wagga, the former Bonlac Foods Limited, the former Bonland Dairies, Fonterra's milk collection business and the sales, marketing and distribution assets of Norco Milk. He will also be responsible for Fonterra's consumer brands operations in New Zealand and Tip Top, Fonterra's ice-cream business located in New Zealand.
In addition to his Australasian role, Doumani will have global responsibility and accountability for Fonterra's foodservice business.
Doumani joins Fonterra with a 25 year career in international business and consumer brands. Most recently he was President International of Campbell's Soup Company, being responsible for all Campbell's businesses across Europe Asia and Pacific. This included the Campbell Arnotts business in Australia and New Zealand, a business he had previously run and successfully turned around. Prior to joining Campbell's he was Managing Director of Meadow Lea Foods and has 13 years of experience with Johnson & Johnson, during which time he held many senior roles in Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, culminating in the role of Managing Director Johnson & Johnson Pacific.
Doumani is currently the Executive-in-Residence at the University of New South Wales Faculty of Commerce & Economics, Director of Inspire Foundation and Director of Corporate Countdown.
