Air Cruise Australia’s Untouched Land

Air Cruise Australia’s Untouched Land

Flying between famous Australian National Parks and experiencing Australian nature at its best is all in a day's work for Captain Stephen Weatherstone, aircrusing pilot based in Sydney.

Stephen Weatherstone, of Bill Peach Journeys, decided to make the move from Civil Aviation Authority Inspector to aircrusing pilot six years ago.

“I decided that I would prefer to be a doer, rather than a watcher. I wanted to get involved. The variety of flying in the most spectacular scenery imaginable provides immense satisfaction. Australia has so many wonderful icons, and my job means I get to travel to and experience these unique World Heritage sites and National Parks as part of my daily routine,” says Weatherstone.

Vito Anzelmi, Regional Manager for Tourism Australia New Zealand says that more Kiwis are choosing this method of travel with a 25 per cent increase of visitors choosing to become involved in this unique way to see and experience Australia.

“Aircruising is the prefect way for Kiwis to experience Australian. Aircruising by private aircraft minimises travelling time and allows visitors to spend more time at each of the unique and fascinating destinations. With no airport check-in counters and a completely pre-arranged itinerary makes this type of travel ideal for a stress free and enriching holiday for Kiwis,” says Anzelmi.

The aircruising concept first came from Bill Peach, a famous Australian television personality, who has travelled extensively around Australia by four-wheel-drive. He decided there must be a better way of seeing this beautifully vast land in style and comfort.

Included in Bill Peach’s ‘flightseeing’ tours is the World Heritage and National Park Aircruise. This 12-day tour includes five exceptional World Heritage areas, and enables Kiwis to see the best of Australian nature while still experiencing complete luxury. Accommodation throughout the tour is the best available at each location.
Weatherstone flies visitors in his luxury Dash-8 aircraft, designed to ensure maximum comfort, to some of the most remote and often inaccessible regions of Australia.

“The Dash-8 aircraft enables us to fly to even the most remote places. On this tour we fly to Cradle Mountain National Park, Kangaroo Island, Coober Pedy, Uluru, Katherine Gorge, Jabiru National Park, Cape Tribulation, Great Barrier Reef and Lamington National Park.

“Viewing these historical scenic landscapes from above is completely unique and is a major highlight for our guests. The scenery is spectacular and is something visitors never forget. I have seen it many times and never feel unimpressed. Sunset at Uluru is particularly breathtaking.

“The wildlife is impressive each time I visit the different regions. Kakadu has the best wetlands wilderness in the world, with a third of our bird species. It’s also is home to a quarter of our freshwater fish and plant life that are so exotic it’s like a natural biological laboratory,” says Weatherstone.

Weatherstone and Bill Peach ensure their passengers are well informed in Australian history by having an expert local guide at each destination. These guides are local to the area and are well-versed in the history of each region.

“In Kakadu we visit the paintings at Nourlangie Roack and Ubirr Rock which speak of the spiritual experience of the first Australian’s who have known this country for over 50,000 years. These local guides and National Park rangers help visitors uncover the unique characteristics of each individual region,” say Weatherstone.

Weatherstone believes there are many highlights on the World Heritage and National Park aircruise as it covers such vast areas in the perfect amount of time.

“The greatest highlight of this tour is the variety of the Australian continent and southern islands. The escape out of Sydney on day one is the perfect start, leaving the urban rush behind. The flight down the east coast over Bass Straight into Tasmania is fantastic. You see some of the most beautiful coastline Australia has to offer. Travelling north through the centre of Australia is an extreme contrast to the coastal regions, from desert inland then onto the lush tropical north is magnificent. Aircruising has it all in just the right amount of time,” says Weatherstone.
