Mazda6 Makes It Four From Four
2006 was another very good year for Mazda New Zealand with strong sales across the range but it was the Mazda6, the model that started the resurgence of the Mazda brand, which was the stand out performer.
For the fourth consecutive year the awarding winning Mazda6 was the top selling mid size four cylinder car in New Zealand with sales of 2518 units. This helped the company achieve total sales for 2006 of 6,148 and a market share of 6.2% (up from 5.8% in 2005). This put Mazda in 7th position overall and a clear 5th in the passenger segment with 4,695 units.
Andrew Clearwater, managing director Mazda New Zealand said the slowing economy combined with concerns about interest rates made 2006 a more challenging year for the industry as a whole.
“For Mazda to be able to increase its market share was a great result and a credit to the efforts of the Mazda team and the Mazda dealer network throughout the country,” said Clearwater.
“Once again the Mazda6 proved to be winner with both fleet and private buyers and to get the top spot for the fourth year highlights what a fantastic vehicle it is. The Mazda3 is also gaining in popularity and the motoring writers were full of praise for the performance of the Mazda3 MPS launched in 2006.
“The reaction from the media and dealers at the December launch of Bounty replacement the BT-50 and exciting CX-7 was extremely positive and puts us in a very strong position to maintain the momentum in 2007,” concluded Clearwater.
