Orcon delighted at passing of Telecommunications Amendment Bill

Orcon was pleased to hear that the Government yesterday passed the Telecommunications Amendment Bill less than six months after it was introduced.

“We are very happy with the speed with which this has progressed. This means that New Zealanders will soon be able to experience the benefits of true competition in the broadband and telecommunications markets,” said Scott Bartlett, General Manager of Orcon.

The provisions of the bill include the unbundling of the local loop, which will give Orcon the ability to provide naked DSL, and eventually to provide high speed broadband services (up to 100Mbps) delivered using VDSL2 technology.

“This bill ensures that Telecom will deliver LLU, which in turn means we will be able to provide New Zealanders with better broadband and more affordable communications” concluded Bartlett.
