Iceberg flights from Queenstown with Real Journeys

Iceberg flights from Queenstown with Real Journeys

Tourism operator Real Journeys has teamed up with Otago Helicopters to take people from Queenstown to view icebergs off New Zealand’s east coast.

The Iceberg Flights begin with a flight from Queenstown to Dunedin in a Milford Sound Flightseeing twin-engine aircraft. In Dunedin, passengers transfer to a twin-engine helicopter which has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority for iceberg operations.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these icebergs,” says Milford Sound Flightseeing chief pilot Dave Cross. “There’s no better way to view them than from a helicopter – you get incredibly close to them.”

The Iceberg Flights will start on Monday 27 November and continue as long as the icebergs remain. “It’s been predicted they’ll be around for another 10 days or so – it all depends on the weather,” Mr Cross says. “But there’s also talk of some more looming up behind these ones so you never know.”

He urged people to book early to secure a place on the Iceberg Flights. Each excursion requires seven people to take place and flights will be weather dependent.

Iceberg Flights ex Queenstown cost $830 per person ($330 for the return fixed-wing flight from Queenstown and $500 for the helicopter flight to the icebergs).
