Stepping Out From Under The Bushel – New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards Finalists Announced

What do University of Auckland’s Fale Pasifika, Otago’s Wainakarua Bridge and Takaka’s Milk Factory have in common? These are only some of the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards finalists announced today.

“The New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards dispels the myth that engineering is the invisible profession and seeks to celebrate the industry as a business and the crux of innovation”, says Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) Chief Executive Dr Andrew Cleland.

Dr Cleland says that New Zealanders are surrounded by many fantastic examples of engineering and the Awards are an opportunity to highlight just how many there are.

“The finalists are brilliant examples of the many facets of engineering that enhance our lives, businesses and economy”, says Dr Cleland. “The innovative approaches undertaken demonstrated both the high standards and the joy the finalists have invested in their work”.

Winners for individual and category sections of the will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 22 November 2006 at TE PAPA, Wellington.

The awards are staged by a consortium of four partners and ten contributing organisations. The founding partners are: Centre for Advanced Engineering (CAE); Association of Local Government Engineering New Zealand Incorporated (Ingenium); Electricity Engineers Association of New Zealand (EEA) and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand Inc (IPENZ).
