Fonterra Gets Behind Nationwide Spring-Clean

Fonterra staff up and down the country will be pulling on rubber gloves, reaching for plastic bags and taking to the streets this week, all in the name of keeping New Zealand beautiful.

The company is participating in Clean Up Week, a Keep New Zealand Beautiful initiative to encourage kiwis to take responsibility for their environment.

Fonterra's Natural Resources Group Manager, Karen Leov, says teams of staff from the company's 26 sites will be showing their support for the campaign by clearing rubbish from around roadsides, sports fields, parks and beaches in their local communities.

"Fonterra is a corporate member of Keep New Zealand Beautiful and we saw this campaign as an opportunity for our staff to take the company's commitment to environmental responsibility out into the community," said Ms. Leov.

"We have had a great response from our staff and all sites have developed an 'action plan' especially for the event."

It is just one of a number of key environmental activities in which Fonterra is taking a lead role. Tangible examples of this are the company's Landfill and Energy Reduction Projects and Fonterra Tirau's recent win at the Waikato Sustainable Business Awards for its innovative wastewater treatment process.
