Comprehensive Traffic Plan In Place At Sylvia Park
Comprehensive Traffic Plan In Place At Sylvia
Park
Sylvia Park’s Traffic Management Plan has been significantly upgraded to manage traffic flows around the area as it rolls out the next stage of retail stores.
In
consultation with roading and traffic authorities (Auckland
City, Transit NZ, ARTA and Police), Sylvia Park has
completed a multi-faceted plan that
includes:
Completion of a third entrance into Sylvia
Park from Mt Wellington Highway (by the Caltex Service
Station).
Publicising the fourth site entry off
Carbine Road.
A newspaper advertising campaign
detailing entrance roads, retail locations, best parking
areas and public transport options for customers to plan
their routes.
Completion of 538 additional car parks,
taking the total number of car parks to over 2,200 - 50%
more parks than the resource consent requires.
More
than 20 on-site traffic personnel will be available to
direct customers to available car parks.
Extra road
signs detailing alternate access roads and motorway
turn-offs will be prominent on arterial routes and the
southern motorway.
Provision for regular traffic
updates to radio stations.
Improvements to Sylvia
Park’s website on travel alternatives and public transport
information - www.sylviapark.org.
Traffic control
contractors on stand-by, if required.
“This is the most comprehensive Traffic Management Plan to date and it’s been developed in collaboration with the experts from the relevant authorities”, said Chief Executive of the Manager of Kiwi Income Property Trust, Angus McNaughton.
“However, they anticipate the infrastructure will still come under pressure during peak traffic times”.
“The reality is that traffic build-up was only an issue at the initial opening, and it has settled down very well since then, the run from the city to Sylvia Park is the usual 10 minutes and plenty of parking on site”.
The next big event is the opening of supermarket giant, PAK’nSAVE this Tuesday morning. A new entry road and 500 extra car parks are adjacent to the new 6,600 square metre store.
“On 24 August the much anticipated Fashion Precinct will be opened, providing over 50 fashion stores, or an extra 7,500 square metres of retail therapy”.
Once Sylvia Park is completed, it will be the largest retail and entertainment centre in NZ, about the size of nine rugby paddocks.
