Nuffield Street opening less than a month away

Banners featuring the names of the international retailers who will open in August have been unfurled at Nuffield Street in Auckland’s Newmarket.

Revealing a new nirvana for dedicated retail therapists, Nuffield St opens on Thursday, 17 August, 2006 featuring 29 new stores including nine retail brands new to New Zealand.

Globe trotting Kiwi shoppers will recognise fashion labels Alannah Hill (Aus) and Karen Millen (UK), Birkenstock shoes from Germany and General Issue which is stocking 100 per cent Abercrombie and Fitch (USA).

Iconic Kiwi brands will also be featured including Swanndri, the newly-emerging fashion adaptation of the practical farm clothing icon, and NZ Girl, the bricks and mortar incarnation of the popular web-site.

Developed by Westfield NZ, Nuffield Street will be a vibrant boutique style destination, featuring 29 hand-picked exclusive international and local fashion labels, chic eateries and modern homewares stores.

“We’ve got some amazing designers and talent in this country but there are still people who travel the world to shop. With Nuffield Street, they don’t have to any longer,” says Justin Lynch, Deputy Director, Westfield NZ.

“The balance of high profile local names and highly anticipated overseas designers making their entrance on the Auckland fashion scene make this destination for discerning fashionistas.”

To mark the countdown to opening of Nuffield Street suitably-fashionable black and white banners have been unveiled announcing the Nuffield Street store mix.

With the exception of Two Double Seven homewares retailer Nest and St Lukes menswear store Strada , the Nuffield Street retailers are new to the Westfield portfolio.

And while the majority of Nuffield Street stores fall into the fashion, jewellery and accessories categories, there are a number of food outlets to provide much needed retail therapy sustenance.

The Nuffield Street precinct is adjacent to the former grand, old Auckland Electric Power Board building to which Watercare Services and Sony are moving their head offices and has been restored to its former glory.

Nuffield Street specialty stores provide 5,235 square metres of floor space, more area than a rugby field. The total development is 9,787 square metres and the 29 stores will be serviced by new car parking for more than 300 cars.
