Record nominations for Auckland Top Shop 2006 Awards

The Auckland Top Shop nominations are in with record numbers for 2006 with over 2,200 nominations received.

A wide range of stores have been nominated, from butchers to book stores, fish to fashion and gifts to gardening.

The Auckland Top Shop competition is run by New Zealand Retailers Association. Northern Regional Manager Russell Sinclair says the high number of nominations shows the increased consumer and retailer awareness of the awards. “The Top Shop Awards are New Zealand’s most prestigious retail awards and it is great to have a larger pool of nominations this year to help us find Auckland’s most excellent retailers,” he says.

Nominated stores now have to send in the entry pack and put up the entrant banner in their store – showing customers they are a preferred place to shop.

All stores will be mystery shopped by Fieldforce Limited and finalist chosen in each category. The finalists will then be rejudged by an experienced panel of judges, each with strong backgrounds in the retail industry. The winners of each category and the Overall Top Shop award, sponsored by Auckland Top Shop’s principal sponsors The New Zealand Herald and The Aucklander, is chosen from the seven category winners. The awards will be presented at a gala dinner at the SKYCITY Convention Centre on 1 November 2006.

Sharon Johansen won the $1,000 shopping spree by taking part in nominating her favourite store, Jacquie E in Westfield Shore City.

Retailers would have now received their entry packs and need to get their entries in New Zealand Retailers Association by 13 July to be eligible to enter.
