NZ’s super-premium vodka wins
gold at the World Spirit Awards(Monde Selection) for the
third time
(it’s like winning the Best Picture Oscar
three years in a row…)
It’s another gong show for 42
BELOW, which has scooped a treasure trove of gold for its
super-premium 42 BELOW vodka and SOUTH gin at the Monde
Selection spirit awards.
The Monde Selection is the world’s most prestigious spirit competition. In the 2006 World Selection of Spirits and Liqueurs, 42 BELOW Pure vodka received a Gold Medal and the International High Quality Trophy, awarded to a brand that has won gold three years in a row. This is the first time an Australasian spirit has received such an accolade.
42 BELOW Passionfruit and SOUTH Gin received the top medals in the annual competition, the Grand Gold Medal with Palms – the second time SOUTH has won this award.
Chief vodka bloke Geoff Ross says: “I know 42 BELOW is always banging on about all our awards – but it’s hard to be modest about this. This is huge in the beverage world.
“Winning the Monde gold for the third time is like taking home the Best Picture Oscar or the Cannes Palm D’Or for three years straight. It’s seriously big time and we’re seriously chuffed.
“Our lawyers have now confirmed it. There is now no vodka in the world that has won as many awards as 42 Below – not bad considering we’re only a few years old.”
Geoff says the 42 BELOW wins are the latest in a long line of international successes for what he terms “the new New Zealand icons”.
“There’s this fantastic new generation of iconic Kiwi brands which is kicking the traditional ‘meat carcass and milk powder’ stereotype,” he says.
“New Zealanders are making a massive impact on a global scale with mind-blowing achievements in film, fashion, art and design, food and of course drink.
“The days of being known for powdered milk and legs of lamb are gone – New Zealand has grown up and got cool. And 42 BELOW is stoked to be part of the Great Kiwi Leap Forward.”
42 BELOW is the world’s most awarded vodka. It exports 65% of its vodka to 25 countries including the UK, US, France, Spain, Russia, Germany, Canada, Panama, Singapore, China, Japan and Dubai. It is also served in more than 4,500 of the world’s best bars, including the Ritz Hotel in London and the world’s best restaurant, El Bulli in Spain.
