Freddie Award for Frequent Traveller Credit Card

American Express Wins Freddie Award for Best Frequent Traveller Credit Card

Auckland, 14 June 2006 - The American Express Membership Rewards programme has added another international award to its collection after being named “Best Frequent Traveller Credit Card 2005” for the Asia Pacific region in the 18th Annual Freddie Awards. American Express Membership Rewards was also named the ‘Best Rewards Programme 2006’ by Money Magazine earlier this year.

The Freddie Awards was created by InsideFlyer magazine in 1988 and asks frequent flyers to rank airline and hotel programmes from their point of view. The Best Frequent Traveller Credit Card is given to the travel reward card or programme that offers the best combined benefits and opportunities to earn bonus miles or points.

“This is the sixth international Freddie Award for the American Express Membership Rewards programme. We really value these awards as they are based on votes by frequent travellers across the region,” said Stephen Powell, Director, Membership Rewards, American Express New Zealand.

“We are constantly striving to add to the flexibility and value of our Membership Rewards programme both internationally and locally. As well as partnering with five international airlines that fly from New Zealand, and three hotel frequent traveller programmes, we have led the market by enabling our Cardmembers to use their points to book tickets virtually anywhere, anytime, directly with us or through our retail travel partner Holiday Shoppe.”

“This has proven a huge success with millions of points being redeemed on direct ticket purchases each month.”

Another American Express Card, the Singapore Airlines PPS Club card, ranked second in the “Best Frequent Traveller Credit Card” category.

The Asia Pacific region incorporates Asia, Australia, Japan and the Pacific (including New Zealand).
