Beca’s leading lights receive promotions

Engineering, planning and project management consultancy Beca has announced further promotions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The following promotions span the company’s building services, structural, project management and fire engineering divisions:

Brendon Dwyer, Associate – Building Services, Auckland
Brendon joined Beca in 1995. Recently returning from the UK following seven years working on a variety of commercial, healthcare and ‘environmentally sustainable design’ (ESD) projects, Brendon is plying his knowledge on a 410,000m2 mixed-use development in Jakarta, and the domestic terminal development in Auckland. He’s involved in the New Zealand Green Building Council, working on a committee developing an environmental buildings rating system for New Zealand.

Samir Govind, Manager - Christchurch Structural
Samir manages a team of 11 structural engineers and has over 10 years’ experience in buildings and industrial sectors. Recently, he was the lead structural engineer responsible for the refurbishment of the existing Canterbury Courts buildings to house world’s largest model of a proposed township development - Pegasus Township. He has been recently appointed to the Board of the New Zealand Institute of Building and is Honourable Secretary and Treasurer for the NZIOB - Southern Chapter.

Neil Horsfield, Manager - Auckland Commercial Structures
Prior to his arrival in New Zealand early last year, Neil spent 15 years working with a multi-national firm of consulting engineers, and was based in Hong Kong for the last decade. Since joining Beca he has taken lead roles on a number of significant projects including the 450,000m2 Pacific Place development in Jakarta, and AIAL’s Pier B. Neil is currently the structural lead for the redevelopment of Eden Park Stadium in Auckland in preparation for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

David Wood, Associate - Structural Engineering, Wellington
David has been with Beca for four years, working in the Wellington Structural team, primarily in commercial buildings. David’s experience of 13 years in civil construction and commercial design was in Auckland and London, and includes his recent work for Wellington Regional Hospital. Earlier he worked on hotel developments at the Viaduct Basin, Auckland and residential development over the Rotherhithe Road Tunnel which runs under the Thames River, London. Construction experience included site management of an 11km deviation to SH1, encompassing bridge, culvert and earthworks structures, and roading.

Martin Wootton, Manager - Fire Engineering, Auckland
Martin is managing Beca’s national group of fire engineers, as well as serving as the focal point for the international fire engineering fraternity within Beca. Martin joined Beca in 2004 and has had involvement in fire engineering solutions for many key projects including: Emirates Team new Zealand Valencia base, Eden Park modifications, ASB Showground's re-development, Royal New Zealand Yacht Club House modifications and the Smith & Caughey’s Department Store refurbishment.

Sue Bradley, Manager - Industrial Management Services, Auckland
Sue returned to Beca in 2005 to join the industrial management services section as a senior project manager. Her particular areas of experience include the food and beverage arena and water and wastewater treatment. She has worked both in China and South America, building food production facilities for both New Zealand and US companies. Prior to returning to Beca, Sue headed up a team of water and wastewater specialists in the UK, focussing in particular on design and build projects.

Euan Crump, Associate – Project Management, Auckland
Before joining Beca in 1995, Euan worked on rail and hotel developments in Hong Kong and Bangkok. At Beca, he assisted with the construction of the Anker Brewery in Jakarta and then in China on the Suzhou Brewery, before going to the UK and working on London airport developments for BAA. He joined Beca again in 2003 and not surprisingly found himself working on Auckland airport projects as project manager on Pier A segregation, HBS baggage screening, Pier B development and now the Air New Zealand Domestic Terminal Redevelopment.
