Genesis Energy General Manager takes key role in Australia
Genesis Energy’s General Manager Retail, Vince Hawksworth, is leaving the country’s largest energy retailer to take up the reins as Chief Executive of Hydro Tasmania, Australia’s leading renewable energy business.
The company’s Chief Executive, Murray Jackson, said Mr Hawksworth’s experience and success as General Manager Generation and General Manager Retail had created a manager of considerable skill who would be both valued at Hydro Tasmania and missed at Genesis Energy.
Mr Jackson said, “When Genesis Energy was formed, seven years ago, Vince became our General Manager Generation and was responsible for implementing many fundamental improvements to the operation of our Thermal assets. Then four years ago he took over our retail business and brought a new disciplined approach to that division.”
Since he became General Manager Retail, Mr Hawksworth has overseen the growth of Genesis Energy’s Retail business from a fledgling business with 115,000 customers to the country’s largest energy retailer with more than 700,000 electricity and gas customers.
Mr Jackson said it was largely due to Mr Hawksworth’s abilities as a strong leader, decision-maker and analytical thinker that the Retail business was able to grow and prosper.
Mr Hawksworth acknowledged the support he had received from Mr Jackson over the past seven years, in particular the opportunity to take up the challenging role of managing and growing the retail business.
Mr Hawksworth graduated as a Mining Engineer and worked in the United Kingdom mining industry prior to moving to New Zealand in 1993 where he joined the former Electricity Corporation of New Zealand. He has an MBA from Waikato University.
