Plant a tree on
Arbor Day says NZ Gardener
NZ Gardener is
encouraging Kiwi gardeners to plant a tree on Arbor Day
(June 5) – a day that celebrates the beauty of trees and
traditionally marks the beginning of the winter planting
season.
NZ Gardener’s latest issue has a special Arbor Day feature with 40 top trees for New Zealand gardens and all the tools and tips gardeners need to get started.
“Trees are living legacies for generations to come, but too many gardeners hesitate to plant them because they’re worried they’ll get too big, block out light or clog up gutters. But it’s simply a matter of choosing the right tree for the job,” says editor Lynda Hallinan.
In the latest issue NZ Gardener also looks at the growing popularity of farmers’ markets, visiting the Matakana Village Farmers’ Market to meet some of the innovative growers selling unusual edibles, fresh flowers and plants.
Ruud “the bug man” Kleinpaste joins the NZ Gardener team of experts with a new monthly column about pests and food editor Alessandra Zecchini shares recipes for heart-warming liqueurs made from fresh garden ingredients.
And two vastly different but equally beautiful gardens feature as Gardens of the Month – an elegant North Canterbury garden in the South contrasts with an exotic Balinese-inspired West Auckland garden in the North.
The June issue of NZ Gardener magazine is on sale from Monday 15 May and retails for $6.50.
