Chris Gudgeon general manager - property

Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) has appointed Chris Gudgeon to the position of general manager - property. The role is responsible for a growing investment portfolio, now comprising 40 commercial properties worth over $170 million, and the company's broader airport property interests. He will join the company on 6 June 2006.

Auckland Airport chief executive, Don Huse, says that Mr Gudgeon was previously chief executive of Capital Properties New Zealand Limited, "Accordingly, Chris will bring a wealth of experience in property management, development and investment to Auckland Airport."

Mr Gudgeon says, "Auckland Airport is one of New Zealand's leading companies in a dynamic industry and has significant and expanding interests in property. My job will be to continue the good work that has been done by the team to date and take the property development strategy forward for what is really a 'mini-city'."

In March this year, AIAL revealed the shape of New Zealand's gateway airport with the release of its 20 year masterplan review. This included a range of property development activities around the airport designed to deliver its vision of an airport city within a city.

Mr Gudgeon is a qualified civil engineer and holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He has held a variety of civil engineering and senior property investment and development roles in New Zealand and abroad. Mr Gudgeon will move to Auckland from Wellington.

Auckland Airport has recently announced four significant property deals: an expansion to the Fliway Logistics warehouse; the development of the first two office/warehouses in the new north airport commercial zone - for New Zealand Van Lines and Expeditors International; and the development of an airport childcare centre for Lollipops Educare.
