UniServices posts another record year

AUCKLAND, 10 May 2006: Auckland UniServices Limited, announced another year of unbroken growth today with total revenues of $71.2 million.

The commercialisation company of The University of Auckland, the company has posted unbroken rises in revenues every year since it was founded 17 years ago.

“These results clearly reflect the good year we have had with more research and bright ideas coming from The University of Auckland being translated into commercial outcomes,” said Dr Peter Lee, UniServices CEO.

“We contributed $23.7 million back to the University and brought the number of fields of patented technology we hold to 180.

“We were involved in over 2400 projects developing new research insights, helping clients solve problems and new ventures to grow.”

UniServices now employs 551 research, support and management staff in addition to the University researchers it works with. In 2005 it incubated its 22nd new company, e-Learnings Asia Pacific Ltd.

Dr Lee said UniServices is focused on meeting its contribution to the University’s target of doubling research revenues by 2012.

The company had very good results in helping establish specialist research centres at the University that focus on external commercial needs.

For 2006 it will continue to adapt techniques used by industry to commercialise research and development in forming partnerships with large global firms who are increasingly looking to outsource research.
