Unbundling a positive move for city’s economic growth
Auckland City’s chairperson of the Economic Development and Substainable Business Committee, Councillor Richard Northey, today welcomed the government’s decision to unbundle the local loop, paving the way for faster broadband internet services.
“It’s essential for Auckland city businesses to have access to fast broadband. This is a good first step but not the total answer,” said Mr Northey.
“We will continue our discussions with government and network providers to see how broadband of international high-speed standards can be developed in the city and regionwide to boost economic growth.
“I met with Communications Minister David Cunliffe last Saturday, and I can say that today’s news fits perfectly with the council’s strategic aim to see affordable broadband access for all residents and businesses in the city by 2010.”
