New President of CPA Australia's NZ Branch

Judith Ray FCPA has been elected the new President of CPA Australia's New Zealand Branch, taking over from Lorraine Sheehan in April this year.

A public accountant with her own practice in Auckland, Ms Ray said she was delighted to be chosen by CPA Australia members to lead the New Zealand Branch and was looking forward to her 12-month term of office.

"Our membership is growing strongly in New Zealand, and one of my main missions will be to promote the benefits of CPA membership to all accounting, finance and business professionals here," she said.

Australian-born but resident in New Zealand for 17 years, Ms Ray has been involved with the local branch of CPA Australia for ten years and was its president from 1999-2001.

"The profession is changing globally and CPA Australia is at the forefront of that. Six universities in New Zealand have been accredited, which means that our commerce graduates can now have access to the global CPA qualification and walk straight into jobs in many areas of the world, as well as here at home in New Zealand. My goal is to grow student numbers and continue to build growth in membership amongst accountants in industry, public practice, government and academia. " Ms Ray serves on the board of the Auckland Zonta International Club, the UNIFEM New Zealand national committee and is a member of the Friends of the Hope Foundation committee. She is also currently studying for a Certificate of Arts at the University of Auckland.

"CPA Australia members come from all walks of life, and our combined expertise means that we represent the profession – locally and right through to the global community. We need to be responsive and accessible if the New Zealand branch is to be an effective professional asset, so it will be my personal goal to seek the views of as many members as possible over the coming year."
