World First For Odometer Inspection Partners

Media Release: 2 May 2006

World First For Odometer Inspection Partners

The AA’s odometer inspection partner, JEVIC New Zealand Ltd, has become the first company in the world to achieve ISO 17020 accreditation for odometer certification.

ISO 17020 accreditation covers not only the quality of the inspection system, but also the company record-keeping, the technical ability of inspectors and the inspection results.

“JEVIC’s accreditation is confirmation of the capability, experience, professionalism and independence of the AA / JEVIC odometer inspection process,” says AA General Manager of Technical Services, Stella Stocks.

“Motorists wanting to buy a used vehicle from Japan need to ensure it has undergone a reliable and independent odometer inspection, such as the one provided by the AA and JEVIC. If they don’t, they may regret the purchase,” says Ms Stocks.

“The accreditation is proof of our commitment to providing New Zealand consumers with the peace of mind that comes from accurate odometer readings,” says JEVIC’s New Zealand Manager, Euan Philpot.

JEVIC New Zealand Ltd has undertaken more than 130,000 odometer inspections for imported used vehicles. Its partnership with the AA was established in 2004. All inspections are performed in Japan prior to export to New Zealand and each vehicle that passes the inspection process has an AA / JEVIC sticker on the front windscreen and an accompanying certificate.
