Quicksilver Internet launches new faster broadband
Quicksilver Internet is today launching a brand new set of faster broadband plans, offering download speeds up to 3.5 Mb, and upload speeds up to 512K.
The new offerings are available under the new CUBS (Commercial Unbundled Bitstream Service) wholesale agreement.
The plans are available to both home and business, giving New Zealand businesses much greater choice and value for money on ADSL broadband than before. Under the old UBS offerings, businesses were restricted to selecting from a range of extremely expensive plans, with no differentiation from residential plans to justify the additional cost.
Quicksilver will be offering one 2 Mb entry-level plan. All other plans have a download speed of 3.5 Mb. The new plans include free nationwide traffic, which means visits to any sites or servers hosted within New Zealand such as Trademe do not count towards the monthly data usage limit.
"We think our new plans offer something for everyone, at the right price," says CEO Matthew Hobbs. "The broadband situation in New Zealand is far from ideal. We'd love to be offering ADSL broadband at speeds in excess of 10 Mb. We will continue to lobby the government to improve the situation, both directly and through the new ISP Forum ISPANZ. However, the launch of these new plans is a step in the right direction."
Many of Quicksilver's customers will be receiving a free upgrade to a superior plan during April.
Quicksilver will also be announcing a new rewards scheme in the coming weeks, which will offer rebates on the broadband plan fee based on toll call expenditure. Depending on how much they spend, customers could potentially earn a free broadband connection.
