Orcon adds even more capacity to broadband network

March 21 2006

Orcon adds even more capacity to broadband network, announces nationwide network

Orcon is pleased to announce it has increased its international network capacity by a further 20%, meaning Orcon customers have more provisioned bandwidth per customer than many other ISPs in New Zealand. The additional bandwidth allows Orcon customers to continue getting the most out of their broadband and dial-up connections 24 hours a day (subject to Telecom network congestion).

"At the end of the day it has to be about quality and customer service; Orcon made the financial commitment to this additional bandwidth to keep us well and truly ahead of customer demand. We take pride in the fact we have the best broadband and dial-up service in the country, and this is set to continue with the additional bandwidth" said Orcon's General Manager of Operations and Regulatory Affairs, Scott Bartlett.

"We are also pleased to announce that Orcon is in the process of rolling out a nationwide backhaul network, allowing Orcon to sell bandwidth to corporate customers almost anywhere in the country. We have a large number of wholesale bandwidth customers in Auckland and Wellington; and our new network will allow us to offer high quality yet affordable bandwidth to institutions, corporates and ISPs in almost any town in New Zealand" continued Bartlett.

Orcon is one of the largest wholesale bandwidth resellers in New Zealand, with a number of corporate customers taking advantage of Orcon's bulk buying capability and multiple feeds to the backbone of the internet.

"We are likely to see the cost of international bandwidth increase for the first time in New Zealand's history, and customers taking 200Mbit and lower will be stung as a result. Only because of our bulk buying capability and long terms contracts can Orcon continue to offer circuits as small as 5Mbit of fully redundant bandwidth for a good price."

Orcon is expecting the first stage of its nationwide backhaul network to be activated within a month; with additional sites in other centres coming online over the rest of the year. Please contact Orcon Corporate Sales on 0800 55 2000 for more information.
