Winner of Peter Norrie Leadership Scholarship

16 March 2006

Winner of Peter Norrie Leadership Scholarship Announced

Katherine (Kaz) King, of Wellington's Cambridge Hotel, has been named the first recipient of the Peter Norrie Leadership Scholarship.

The Wellington Branch of the Hospitality Association of NZ (HANZ) has established the twelve month scholarship to support up and coming leaders in the hospitality industry.

Wellington Branch President, Adam Cunningham, said industry support for the concept has been overwhelming and it is hoped that after this initial pilot year, the scholarship would go nationwide.

Our aim was to create a programme to encourage managers in our industry to enhance their skills and qualifications. This scholarship is designed to support the professional development of individuals but also the industry standards in general. Peter Norrie, a Wellington Branch life member and HANZ board member, has been involved in hospitality for many years and has been dedicated to the development of people in the industry. This scholarship is designed to continue that focus and passion.

King headed off six other finalists to take away the scholarship. Throughout her scholarship year, King will have access to over $13,000 of training courses, workshops and industry events.

The scholarship includes entry into the New Zealand Diploma of Business Management Hospitality, workshops in stock management with Bevinco New Zealand, marketing and promotions training with a leading advertising company, wine training with Regional Wines and Spirits and Customer Service with GreetNZ, plus travel and accommodation to the HANZ 2006 conference in Queenstown, and the New Zealand Hospitality Show in Auckland.
