Climate Change Conference To Spark Passionate
Few issues would attract interest from scientists, politicians, executives, authors, bankers, diplomats and lawyers
alike, however representatives from each of these groups will soon be gathering in Adelaide, Australia for two days of
lively discussion and debate.
One of the biggest challenges facing industry, government and society in general will form the theme of these
deliberations as Adelaide plays host to the Australia-New Zealand Climate Change & Business Conference from 20 – 21 February 2006.
Attracting expert speakers from Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States,
the Conference will draw together policy makers, senior-level executives and specialists in the field to confront the
business risks and opportunities arising from this critical global issue.
Leading by Example
A Leaders’ Forum, moderated by former NSW Premier, Hon Bob Carr, is slated to be the focal point of the Conference,
bringing senior politicians and captains of industry together to debate climate change issues and the initiatives
required to lead business in their efforts to address greenhouse emission levels.
Following on from last month’s Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate meeting held in Sydney, this
Forum will create a platform for further discussion by the States and business leaders on how best to provide a market
incentive for business to achieve emission reduction targets.
The Science of Climate Change
Renowned environmental writer and commentator, Tim Flannery chairs a presentation to provide an update on the science of
climate change, including the most recent findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), following
their assessment report drafting meeting in Beijing.
Drivers for Climate Change Action Face-Off
Dr Clive Hamilton from the Australia Institute meets Howard Bamsey, Deputy Secretary for the Department of Environment & Heritage and Head of the Australian Greenhouse Office, to present the status of climate change action within the
spheres of politics, society and the investment market.
The Global Experience
Whether a signatory to the Kyoto Protocol or choosing to go it alone to achieve a reduction in emissions, the state of
play in the international carbon market from each corner of the globe will be presented by leading climate change
figures in Europe, Japan, China, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
Paving a Pathway for Emissions Abatement
Industry specialists come together to provide an understanding of the business position on climate change action as they
address the latest research into emissions reduction presented by Dr Steve Howard of The Climate Group.
