Ban On Answering Reception Walk-Ins By CYF Workers
“CYF workers have placed a ban on answering Reception Walk-Ins from 8:00am this morning,” said Lynda Boyd, organiser with the National Union Of Public Employees. “The ban is the latest escalation in action over the bargaining stalemate and NUPE members are also refusing to make key statistical information available to the Government from today and continuing a ban on after hours duty.”
“Negotiations have been at impasse for over five months now, and NUPE members’ patience is beginning to wear thin,” said Lynda Boyd
“Members are committed to achieving their claim for significant percentage wage catch-ups for all occupational groups. NUPE members do not accept the current offer made by CYF which delivers less than the rate of inflation” said Lynda Boyd.
“Many administration staff who are on the frontline facing families who have had their children taken away from them, earn little more then the minimum wage, starting on less then $10.50 per hour. The offer made to CYF social workers is half that which has been offered to social workers in the Health Sector. It is because of these wage injustices that NUPE members are taking action. ”
“It is time for the crucial role these workers play in our community to be recognised. These workers care for vulnerable children and should be paid a wage that enables them to care properly for themselves and their own children,” said Lynda Boyd.
