InterCity helps raise $30,000 for the Salvation Army
Christmas will be extra special for thousands of New Zealanders who will be receiving presents and meals from the Salvation Army this year, thanks to an initiative by InterCity Group.
For the past six weeks everyone booking their travel on InterCity Coachlines was given the opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate by making a $1 or $5 donation to the Salvation Army.
Daniel Rode, InterCity sales and marketing manager, says the lead up to Christmas is the busiest time of year for InterCity with people making their Christmas and holiday travel bookings.
"This Christmas our coaches are carrying thousands of people across the country as they travel to spend time with family and friends. It seemed an obvious time to run this initiative and we're pleased with the money raised to help people in need this holiday season."
The money raised goes initially to the Salvation Army head office in Wellington from where it is distributed across the country to local Salvation Army centres.
The bulk of the money will be used in purchasing food hampers for people in need and Christmas gifts for families. The Salvation Army also organises Christmas dinners for people who would otherwise spend the day alone.
