Politicians to hear of TVNZ pay systems
Details of Television New Zealand’s pay-setting system will be outlined for politicians tomorrow.
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union is due to appear before the select committee looking into the
operations of the state broadcaster, and national secretary Andrew Little says that pay structures will feature
prominently.
“Everyone knows that some people at TVNZ get paid enormous sums of money, yet most of the extremely hard-working staff
get paid just a fraction of those amounts,” he said.
“Just today, we’ve seen 60 production and technical workers at TVNZ’s Avalon studios walk out because the company is
offering them a mere 3.6 per cent pay rise. That hardly keeps up with inflation, yet the company is boasting a $57.3
million profit and record advertising levels.”
The Avalon workers struck between 9am and 10am today, taking the lifestyle programme Good Morning off the air.
